Institut Agama Hindu Negeri (IAHN) Gde Pudja Mataram held the Samawartana ceremony for prospective graduates on May 8, 2025, at Pura Saraswati, Mataram. This sacred Hindu ritual symbolizes the completion of formal education at a specific level while marking a student's transition toward greater responsibilities in society. The event was officiated by Ida Pedanda Gde Oka Demung from Grya Monjok, Mataram, and attended by institutional leaders, faculty members, and students who had successfully completed their academic journey.
Samawartana is not merely a graduation event but a profound spiritual passage that emphasizes intellectual maturity, personal growth, and ethical responsibility. The ceremony at IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram comprised several significant stages, including Mabyakala, Collective Prayers, and Mejaya-Jaya. The Mabyakala ritual serves as a spiritual cleansing process, preparing graduates to embrace new challenges with clarity and sincerity. The Collective Prayers represent reflection and gratitude for the knowledge gained during their academic tenure. Mejaya-Jaya, the final stage of the ceremony, serves as a moment of blessing, signifying readiness to apply acquired wisdom for the benefit of society.
The organizing committee, chaired by Prof. Dr. Ni Wayan Rasmini, S.E., M.Ag., extended appreciation and heartfelt congratulations to all prospective graduates for reaching this distinguished academic milestone. She expressed her hope that they would embrace their noble responsibilities in society with integrity and dedication, contributing meaningfully across various domains.
In his address, Prof. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Wirata, A.Ma., S.E., M.Si., M.Pd., Rector of IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram, underscored the deeper significance of Samawartana, stressing that it should not be viewed as a mere academic celebration but as an essential phase of intellectual and moral development. He urged graduates to apply their knowledge with wisdom, humility, and a commitment to lifelong learning, further reinforcing the importance of becoming Sujana Scholars, individuals who embody virtue, wisdom, and a continuous pursuit of growth. He reminded students that their academic journey does not end here but should serve as a foundation for further refinement, contribution, and self-improvement.
A total of 67 undergraduate (S1) and 7 postgraduate (S2) students participated in the Samawartana ceremony, marking the successful completion of their respective academic programs. The presence of institutional leaders and faculty members underscored the event’s importance, reinforcing Samawartana as both an intellectual and spiritual milestone that signifies the graduates' readiness to contribute to the community.
Ultimately, the Samawartana ceremony at IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram was not only a significant academic tradition but also a testament to the institute’s dedication to preserving cultural and spiritual heritage. By undergoing this rite, graduates are expected to carry forward the ideals of sujana, becoming lifelong learners, acting with humility, and applying their knowledge thoughtfully in their respective fields. The solemn and dignified nature of the ceremony emphasized its lasting impact, serving as a bridge between academic achievement and the responsibilities of service to society.
